Fiji- verse
When you sail into Savusavu
After 2 ½ days at sea
And you´ve tied to a buoy at the Copra Shed
Fiji bitter tastes good, believe me
Then you eat some meals at the Captain´s Club
And you do the rainforest walk
Despite the rain you´re relaxing
Till you hear the excited talk
Of a whopping great high that´s forming
Of 1038
If you like to sail in 40 knots
You might think that sounds great
We ditch plan B and then plan C
Because the wind is wrong
We creep that night into Coconut Point
By now it is really strong
We cross Bligh Water to Viti Levu
And 35 knots becomes par
Impulsive is pleased to be safely across (and so are we)
Behind Nanamu-I-Ra
Where it blows some more for a couple of days
But now we are in the lee
Of Viti Levu with a following wind
A more comfortable place to be
We run down the coast to Vatia Point
Where we almost come to grief
When the anchor drags in bullets of wind
And we end up on the reef
We´re luckily seen by a fisherman, Wais
Who helps to pull us free
And Impulsive is back, though not very pleased
Having tilted to 40 degrees
Our day is not finished for when we arrive
At Vuda marina it´s night
And the narrow channel which cuts through the reef
Is much better done in good light
But we´re safely in and when Kerrie and Michael
Arrive the following day
We have only some jobs and provisioning
And then we´ll be on our way
Then it´s Musket Cove and Navadra
And the cove with the manta ray
But undoubtedly the best for us
Was Somusomu Bay
Where we met up again with Ossie
Who in 1993
Had skippered the yacht we´d chartered
And brought us here to see
His village of which his grandmother
Was then and still is the chief.
We´d been in her house and they´d treated us
To a seafood and seagrapes feast
So we went to church and were treated to lunch
And talked to the villagers there
They loaded us up with papaya
(What little they have they share)
Both Kerrie and Michael worked hard to achieve
Their truly exalted ranks
Of slicer and dicer and spotter
(To the reef spotter special thanks)
We found a good spot to get out of some wind
At Likuliku bay
Where the Octopus resort was so good
They decided to jump ship and stay
We return to Vuda via Musket Cove
There are plumbing jobs to do
The loos are fixed in the nick of time
And we´re off toVanuatu
