More Calypso cruising-The Leeward islands
Now the curve of the islands is west of north
So the wind is nearer the beam
For our passage to Dominica
Making Leeward sailing a dream
We tie to a buoy close to shore at Roseau
And are quickly taken in hand
By Anders and Elizabeth
Although it is all unplanned
We do the Indian River cruise
We swim at the Portsmouth beach
We finish with Jazz in the Jungle
Where we dance to Calypso beats
Guadaloupe has Les Saintes off its southern end
With the charm of provincial France
We walk over to Baie de Pompierre
Watch the young Carnivale girls dance
There´s a windshadow west of Guadaloupe
But there´s snorkelling on the way
Off the rocks of Pigeon Island
As we head for a night at Deshaies
It´s about 70 miles to Nevis
Montserrat is about half way
It´s still belching smoke and looks threatening
Not a place you would choose to stay
At St Kitts we tie up at Basseterre
It´s declined since becoming a nation
There is still the fort at Brimstone Hill
And the Rawlins cotton plantation
Nevis,its sister,is in decline too
But Four Seasons has changed that mood
So tie to a mooring off Pinney`s Beach
Dinghy in for some very good food
The De Crespignys are well seasoned crew by now
As we reach 50 mile to St Barts
We anchor in Rade de Gustavia
Try the Admiral`s culinary arts
Our guide takes the Swedish historical tour
(There`s time for an eclair,too)
Then we lunch well at Nikki`s beach cafe
Before sailing to Ile Fourchue
There is snorkelling here and walking too
But far better than what`s ashore
Are the natty moves Neil Diamond would like
On the spacious Impulsive dance floor
Saint Maartens and St Martin
Are our final Leeward stops
We go through the bridge into the lagoon
And try to keep the girls from the shops
Some shops,of course are acceptable
(The St Martin`s patisserie)
You wouldn`t believe what the Admiral ate
Fraise eclair,enough for three
We wave goodbye to Heather and Dave
We have a few boat jobs to do
We spend our last night in Marigot Bay
Will we manage without our crew?
